Originally from West Palm Beach Florida, Starla began her dance training at the age of eight. Her passion for the art form continued when her family relocated to North Carolina. It was there under the direction of Tanya Forsyth and the Albemarle Dance Theater, Starla received more concentrated training in Ballet and Contemporary dance forms. She also received additional training from the Virginia Ballet Theater. It was there her passion for Modern dance was ignited. Starla later went on to East Carolina University and received a BFA in Dance Performance. Upon graduation, she landed a position with Kinetic Works Dance Company in Charlotte, NC under the direction of Martha Connerton. In NC, Starla furthered her dance education training as well as performing in several Operas with Opera Carolina. In 2010 she moved to Charleston and began performing and choreographing with the Charleston Dance Project under the direction of Jenny Broe and Sara Sumner. Since her arrival in Charleston Starla has performed and choreographed with the Movement Union, Dance Matters, and Dance Lab of Charleston. She has also performed in two operas for Spoleto Festival USA, Le Villie and Vermonda. Starla Continues to teach and guest choreograph throughout the Charleston dance community.

Starla strives to bring positivity and fun to her classes with an emphasis on individual movement expression within the world of modern dance.
