Kasie Auten grew up as a “competition kid” in South Carolina, spending 15 years training and competing in dance. During that time, she received numerous regional and national rankings, titles, and special awards, while attending conventions and master classes with many of the industry’s leading teachers and choreographers. Her early experiences as a competitive dancer shaped the educator she would eventually become and instilled in her a deep appreciation for the impact that a positive teacher and supportive environment can have on a young dancer.

After graduating high school, Kasie attended Converse College, where she studied studio art and dance and was a principal member of the Dance Ensemble for four years. While in college, she continually sought opportunities to expand her training and experience beyond the classroom, attending the American Dance Festival and traveling to cities including New York and Atlanta to study with leading artists. She also began her teaching career, working with Alia Lawson Dance Academy, serving as Converse’s dance tutor, teaching within the college dance department, and choreographing for competitive dancers.

Following college, Kasie moved to New York City to further her training. She interned at Steps on Broadway and trained at Steps, Broadway Dance Center, Ailey, and Peridance, while also participating in showcase performances and collaborations. After returning to South Carolina, she continued teaching and performing, working as a teaching artist and co-director of the Converse College Dance Ensemble before joining DanceFX Charleston and the Charleston Dance Project as a principal dancer.

During her time in Charleston, Kasie performed in full-length productions, site-specific works, festivals, and special events while also teaching tap and jazz technique, directing an adult tap company, choreographing, and working with dancers throughout the Charleston area. She has guest taught and choreographed for schools, studios, festivals, conventions, and dance programs throughout the Southeast and has served as a regional representative for the South Carolina Dance Association.

In 2015, Kasie opened Creative Edge Dance Center, where she has continued to combine her professional experience with her passion for teaching children. Her students have received regional and national recognition, and Kasie herself has earned numerous choreography awards. She has also served as a judge and convention teacher for national dance competitions and continues to travel to New York and throughout the country to train and learn from leading educators and choreographers.

Kasie is passionate about creating a learning environment where every child feels welcomed, supported, challenged, and valued. She strives to meet each dancer where they are, recognize their individual strengths, and encourage them to push beyond what they believe they can accomplish. Her goal is to bring out the very best in every student while helping them develop a lifelong love of dance and the confidence to carry what they learn in the studio into every part of their lives.
